WAFC Tournament/Event Participation Guidelines (up to date 1/29/26)
**This pertains to Fall/Spring tournaments along with out of season events like local futsal leagues and Turf Wars**
- The Club wants our Competitive teams to participate in one tournament per season (i.e. one in the Fall and one in the Spring). For our Junior Academy teams, we will have them play friendly scrimmages against other local clubs in the Fall. JA teams will attend one Spring tournament. Fall/Spring tournaments are completely optional for Travel Rec teams.
- We recommend no more than two tournaments in any one season and this should be contingent on genuine interest from teams to do extra tournaments.
- The Club firmly believes that the majority of our tournament needs can be serviced In-State and ONLY Premier level teams can consider out of state tournaments but this must be reviewed with the Club’s Directors.
- When selecting tournaments to attend, teams should consider the following:
- Spring pre-season tournaments can be very tricky in Colorado and are at increased risk of cancellation due to inclement weather
- However, cancellations are a possibility for ALL tournaments so families should be aware that most events will only refund a portion of the entry fees and, as such, WAFC is not responsible for any unrefunded balances. Parents should also consider finding tournament accommodations that allow for cancellations.
- We have had good experiences at the following In-State tournaments (please contact Club Directors for the strengths/weaknesses of each):
Fall season:- Steamboat Mountain Soccer Tournament (late July)
- Broomfield Shoot Out (early August)
- The Rapids Classic (mid August)
- Cindy Eskwith Memorial Vail Cup (mid October)
- Colorado Rush East Cup (early November)
- Spring season:
- Boys Icebreaker (late February)
- Real Spring Classic (early March)
- Girls Icebreaker (early March)
- Boulder Cup (early May)
- Real Cup/Showcase event (Memorial weekend in May)
- Stenger Invitational (Memorial weekend in May)
Additionally, the Club had a great experience at Turf Wars in Laramie this year (first weekend of the New Year) and are excited to enter several teams into the new CSU Turf Wars tournament this February. We highly recommend participation in these events along with Winter futsal at NOCO Sports Center. However, these are considered off season optional supplements to a player’s mandatory Fall/Spring commitment and, going forward, the Club will share these opportunities with ALL teams via PlayMetrics. It is then the responsibility of each team - i.e. coaches, team manager and families - to coordinate rosters and entry into these events.
- Effective Spring season of 2026 each WAFC team will need a Team Manager and they, in coordination with the Head Coach, will be responsible for registering/rostering their team into tournaments, futsal leagues and other competitions such as Turf Wars, etc.. Team Managers (or another willing parent) will take care of the registration fee and will seek prompt payments from the parents of participating players before or after registration (**PLAYERS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED ELIGIBLE TO ATTEND THE TOURNAMENT OR EVENT UNTIL THEIR BALANCE IS PAID IN FULL**). WAFC is making this change due to the continued growth of the club resulting in a far greater volume of tournament registrations and to ensure that individual teams do not miss out on participation in events (particularly winter off-season programming).
- If a Head or Assistant Coach cannot participate in off season programming, the Head Coach and Team Manager should consult with the Club’s Directors for guidance and facilitation of coaching support/adult supervision for an event/tournament. Options would include Directors, guest coaches or a suitable parent temporarily taking responsibility for coaching duties.
- It is essential that our Coaches/Team Managers communicate tournament participation to both the Club’s Technical Director (Adam) and Operations Manager (Megan) particularly if it impacts CSA league schedules! Please note that CSA schedules take precedence over any tournaments. CSA league play is our absolute priority!
- Coach reimbursement for travel expenses to tournaments/events - need to add something here. $400 max for the weekend. And player’s registration extra.
