Inclement Weather Policy
Lightning Storms
- We use the ‘My Lightning’ App for consistency
- 10 mile radius rule
- 30 minutes gap in strikes
- Training sessions, games or activities suspended immediately and kids moved/sheltered in a covered building or to their parents vehicle
- We ALWAYS error on the side of caution with electrical storms - DO NOT take risks here folks.
Air Quality
- 150 on the Air Quality Index (AQI) is where we start to make adjustments…..low cardio, reduce intensity, shorten sessions. Kids with sensitivities should perhaps not participate. If the temps are very hot as well, we could cancel.
- 200 AQI plus = canceled sessions
- Use Colorado Public Health and Environment reporting as a guide but ‘Purple Air’ is also a good resource
Heat
- No formal policy but when it’s hot (i.e. over 90°) increase frequency water breaks, find shade at breaks and adjust training intensity or duration
- Over 100° temps = Club review of situation and further restrictions or cancellation could result
Snow/Cold
- The amount of snowfall and pitch conditions dictate cancellations.
- Temp/wind chill below 25° = cancellation
Wind
- Club will help guide a decision on this but safety (i.e. risk of flying objects) and the ability to put cones/balls on the ground will dictate cancellations
Rain
- Unless it’s our younger players or horrible conditions, ‘Suck it up buttercup’!!
Common sense, simple preparedness and communications are essential here.
